Stage 4 of the Design Process
The interior design experience is one of the most enjoyable components of a custom home build because it’s where you will begin to see your ideas come to life. The possibilities are endless, and it’s up to us to interpret your vision to create a home that will match your preferences like no other house would. Working in collaboration with our incredibly talented team, the finished product—a thoughtful, highly practical, and beautiful home—will be worth the effort!
What’s Included in the Interior Design Phase?
Homeowners building a custom home with Urbis can expect to begin the interior design process upon completion of the design concept and architectural design stages. However, working with our interior team is not limited to projects Urbis oversees from conception to completion. Our comprehensive services can be requested stand-alone or integrated with any of our other services.
In the interior design stage, we provide a variety of resources to assist in envisioning the interior design of your home. We provide a lookbook, hand-generated sketching, and interior 3D renderings to help homeowners visualize the design. As the process progresses, we offer tweaks to the floorplans to accommodate selections and more detailed designs, create interior elevation drawings, source material specs and fixture selections, and begin primary consultation with suppliers.
These detailed plans, in combination with the working drawings, will be integral in guiding the building process!
The Interior Design Process Steps
As we work through the interior design with you, there are many opportunities for in-person meetings to get to know you and your design goals and provide ample touch points for you to share your thoughts and comments.

You’ll be paired up with our expert interior designer, who will be by your side throughout the entire process and will dive deep into understanding how you want to live in your house. To the untrained eye, it can be easy to underestimate the number of details and decisions that need to be made. Our team seamlessly coordinates the various layers of design mentioned above to bring the project to life, making sure that our clients don’t feel like they are in over their heads along the way.
Lighting, flooring, millwork, plumbing fixtures, paint colours—these are only a small selection of the design elements you will have to consider. Depending on the size of the project, it can take 2-3 months to work through all these details. There’s no greater feeling than walking into your completed home to see all these individual aspects come together to create a one-of-a-kind space for you and your family to begin making memories.
