Hello Pleasantview!

The location of our home informs our lifestyle—the length of our commute, where our kids go to school, whether there’s a farmers' market or a trail network nearby. Where we live determines the community we are a part of and the neighbours we interact with. In keeping with the theme of our last post, we would like to highlight another one of our favorite Edmonton neighbourhoods. Up next in our list is Pleasantview.

Nestled just a tad south of Whyte Avenue, this community has many great features. An interesting characteristic of this neighbourhood is its topography. At the center of Pleasantview is a hill, and one of Edmonton south’s more obvious elevation changes. At this location would have provided a view, one from which the vantage point was deemed ‘pleasant’. And so it was named just that. This area is more than just a charming name. Here are a few of its best attributes.

That means this community is deemed as VERY walkable! There are about 55 restaurants, bars and coffee shops in Pleasantview. People in Pleasantview can walk to an average of 0.9 hospitality amenities in 5 minutes. Pleasantview Elementary School is one of the top-rated Elementary Schools in the Edmonton Area. Rated 6th out of 852 Schools Alberta in the Fraser Institute’s 2017-18 Report Card on Elementary Schools. Mount Pleasant is just steps away and another 6 schools are in close proximity.

Hello Convenience! Commuting around the city doesn’t get any easier than this.

Excellent access to the Whitemud Freeway, Calgary Trail and Gateway Boulevard as well the University of Alberta, the University of Alberta farm, the Neil Crawford Centre, and Whyte Avenue.

Go Green. Green Space in proximity is an understatement.

Pleasantview Park is complete w/ soccer fields, baseball diamonds, trails and a playground. Let that dog run free as a large portion of this park space is fenced. Pleasantview Community Center is central to the community with an outdoor ice skating rink and tennis courts. And just a few blocks north is Allendale community league and school with all the same amenities. With 7 Parks and many rec centres nearby, talk about options!

Community facelift is in the works!

Pleasantview is currently undergoing the Neighborhood Renewal Project by the City of Edmonton. This will mean the neighbourhood will have all new sidewalks, curbs, roadways and street lights.

Attention cyclists!

To all avid bikers, or those who simply enjoy a leisurely family bike ride in the warmer months. 106th Street is home to a new and extensive bike lane connecting cyclists north from Pleasantview to Saskatchewan Drive. The city has future plans to expand this south.

Shop till you drop.

Talk about accessibility...two of the best shopping destinations are at your fingertips. Pleasantview is nestled in between the boutique shops of Whyte Avenue to the north and all the major amenities of Southgate Shopping Center just a few blocks south. Hop on Calgary Trail and find yourself at South Edmonton Common in just over 5 minutes. Options for shopping can’t be beat.

Looking for a strong sense of community?

Pleasantview has a very active community league that offers social functions and provides services and programs to the residents and members of the community. Recently the community hall underwent exterior renovations, and updates to the playground are in the works. From Book Clubs, to Yoga Classes to Men’s Night, Pleasantview Community League has a list of activities for a variety of interests and demographics!
