It’s been a busy couple of months for the Urbis team and we have multiple projects on the go in various stages of completion! On top of that, we have some exciting updates to share. Here’s a quick recap of what we have in the works.
Heading into spring, our team is feeling rejuvenated and excited for what’s to come! We’ve been up to big things over the past few months and can’t wait to carry this momentum as we head into a new season.
The summer season is busy for us and our clients but we’d like to pause for a moment to celebrate the ladies of Urbis! (Don’t worry, we’re not leaving out the guys — stay tuned for part two)
We have had some exciting shifts on our team, with some stepping into new roles within the company, some new to our team, and some who have been with us for over 25 years! We are fortunate to have a trusted team of women, each bringing their unique qualities and personalities to Urbis.
At Urbis, our homes are of the highest quality because we integrate architectural and interior design into the construction process. From blueprints to moving day, we guide families step-by-step through the journey of designing and building modern infill homes that are as unique as they are.
We’ve put the finishing touches on Crestwood 143 and we’d like to show you how our client’s ideas have transformed into real-life design. Taking the time to get to know our clients is a key part of the design process. In order to achieve the custom results they want, we first have to learn how the space needs to function, and what key details they are drawn to. From there, we can interpret their inspiration photos, and we bring it all together to create a unique design.
To help you finish off your holiday shopping, our design team has put together a blog featuring 3 local stores that they each love, along with some of their top picks which would make perfect gifts for those special people in your life!
Lindsay is involved throughout the entire design process and you’ll see her influence in many of the project photos we share! Learn more about her role working with our clients, all things design & how she finds inspiration.
Talk about street cred; our team feels so fortunate to be led by a seasoned Architect and mentor with 40 years’ experience. We asked our community on social media to ‘Ask the Architect’ and opened it up for questions. Here is what came of this candid Q & A…
One of the biggest challenges when beginning the design of a new home is figuring out where to start. Floorplan, architectural style, interior finishes, exterior materials, budget, must-haves the list goes on.
We sat down with Shelley, our Interior Designer, to talk about where she finds inspiration, the design process and some design trends she’s loving!
As our lead designer, Katie has worked with many clients to help them bring their dream home to life. Now she’s working on a home for what could be her toughest client yet… herself! What’s it like for a designer to build their own home? We asked Katie to fill us in on the details- from the challenges she has faced to what her favourite moments have been so far.
We’re very excited to share that Urbis’ lead of design, Katie, was featured in Poppy Barley’s Raise Her Up Blog. A huge thank you to the Poppy Barley team for this recognition, it’s been a pleasure collaborating with you!
We’re thrilled to have been nominated as a finalist for the 2021 Canadian Home Builders’ Association Awards of Excellence in multiple categories! Here’s a closer look at these homes.
Today we’re featuring one of the most desired locations in Edmonton- Glenora. As a design builder specializing in the mature neighbourhoods of the city, we’ve built up quite the portfolio of projects in this iconic neighbourhood. Keep reading as we share a little bit more about why Glenora is the place to be!
A question that is frequently asked when clients are looking to build a new or infill home in an established or mature neighbourhood is how to ensure the home blends in and maintains the character of the neighbourhood.
Happy Holidays from the Urbis team! This holiday season may be different than one we’ve ever experienced before, but regardless of the ups and downs this past year has brought, we’re determined to end this year spreading joy!
If you’re familiar at all with the Edmonton infill community, you may or may not have heard of IDEA (aka Infill Development in Edmonton Association). Today we have the pleasure of doing a Q & A with Mariah Samji, Executive Director of IDEA, to learn more about what infills mean to the growth of our city and what IDEA represents.
We are pleased to announce a very important addition to our leadership team. Please join us in welcoming Danielle L’Heureux!
Are you thinking of renovating your home? Often one of the first questions we find that comes up is if a remodel is worth it to get the results you want, or if starting from scratch with a new build is a better option. Here are a few questions to ask yourself that will help make your decision a little bit clearer.
This summer more than ever, a lot of Edmontonians are spending more time at home. As such, we’ve been getting a lot of enquiries and questions on how to get the ball rolling as people look to re-work their existing home or have the itch to build new.
We guide families step-by-step through the journey of designing and building modern infill homes that are as unique as they are. Do you have a lot to build your dream home or want to renovate your existing home, but don’t know where to start? We can assist!
Our company founder, Rick Arndt, has been featured on the cover of the May 2020 issue of Avenue Edmonton and we couldn't be more honoured! A huge thank you to the team at Avenue Magazine for sharing Rick's story.
Nicole Sehn is the Vice President of Alberta Asphalt, partner to Blake Fels (a journeyman welder and stay at home dad), and mom to 2 young children. As an extremely busy family they have very little time to spare, which is why it was so important to us to provide them the easiest process possible! We asked Nicole to share a little about her experience with Urbis. Check out what she had to say here, along with some photos of their finished home.
In the spirit of the Holiday Season, we would like to touch on a topic that is aligned with the values of Christmas. During a time when generosity and giving are at the forefront of people’s minds and priorities, we would like to take this opportunity to share our thoughts regarding the best practices of being a good neighbour in the context of an infill build.
Custom home building can be very overwhelming. So many decisions. More than you could even imagine. And if agreeing with your partner or family surrounding all these decisions isn’t hard enough, you must also balance this with the implications of cost and budget. It’s very easy for things to spiral out of control- trust us, we as a design builder, hear all the same horror stories you do!
The location of our home informs our lifestyle—the length of our commute, where our kids go to school, whether there’s a farmers' market or a trail network nearby. Where we live determines the community we are a part of and the neighbours we interact with. In keeping with the theme of our last post, we would like to highlight another one of our favorite Edmonton neighbourhoods. Up next on our list is Pleasantview.
The choice of where to live is one of the most impactful personal decisions we make. That’s why we want to feature a neighbourhood that is near and dear to us. One that is right around the corner from where our family has set roots in this city, Strathearn!
At the core, we’re a family owned and operated company. Our family has been in Edmonton for over 100 years. We love Edmonton and watching it grow and with our city’s growth comes our exciting announcement of the unveiling of our new brand, Urbis Infill Homes.
